Frédéric Guilbert, 31, is expected to extend his Nantes contract by two years, taking him to 2028, despite relegation to Ligue 2, according to L'Équipe.

The versatile defender joined on a free in late January after terminating his Lecce contract, initially signing for six months. He previously featured for Bordeaux, Caen, Aston Villa and Strasbourg.

Short of match fitness on arrival, he finished the campaign strongly, starting the last seven league matches.

He then missed the season finale against Toulouse with a knee problem. That game was abandoned on Sunday after a pitch invasion.

If finalised, the extension would effectively be Nantes’ first piece of business for next season, as they aim for an immediate return.
