Fredrik Aursnes hailed by Norway coach after 3-1 Sweden win, praised for leadership

Fredrik Aursnes marked his first Norway appearance in almost three years by impressing in a 3-1 victory over Sweden in a 2026 World Cup warm-up. The Benfica midfielder started and was central to Stale Solbakken’s plan.
According to Glorioso 1904, the Norway coach was pleased with the 30-year-old’s display. Aursnes fulfilled a hybrid brief, alternating between advanced duties and partnering in midfield to steady possession.
Solbakken said it was a strong return, highlighting the control and circulation Aursnes provided. He added that he believes the player has developed greater leadership through his role at Benfica.
The Norway international is under contract at Benfica until 2029 and remains an influential figure in the squad. His deal includes a €50 million release clause.
In 2025/26 for Benfica, Aursnes made 49 competitive appearances. The breakdown was 28 in Liga Portugal Betclic, 14 in the Champions League, four in the Taça de Portugal, two in the Taça da Liga and one in the Supertaça. He totalled 4,088 minutes, scoring four goals and supplying eight assists.
