Kylian Mbappe arrived at Real Madrid to compete at the elite level and win trophies, but the well has gone dry since his arrival.
In two years at the club, the team failed to win La Liga, the Copa del Rey, the Spanish Super Cup, and the UEFA Champions League, leaving the player without a single major title in two seasons.
Instead, his former club PSG went on to win the UCL in their first season without him and are again in the semifinals of the competition this season, while Mbappe must play the rest of the campaign knowing there is no chance at silverware.
Former Barcelona, Arsenal, and Chelsea player Emmanuel Petit spoke to RMC Sport via MARCA in a recent interview where he was asked about the reason for Real Madrid’s downfall over the past few seasons.
He linked a major part of the downfall to Kylian Mbappe’s arrival, albeit not to the player himself but the atmosphere change after he arrived.
“It’s not just Mbappe’s fault, but his arrival has filled the dressing room with selfishness. It’s a fiasco,” he said.

Correlating Real Madrid’s downfall with PSG’s rise and how Mbappe’s transfer is directly linked to the same, Petit said,
“Since PSG have been playing as a team, they are phenomenal. They are united like the fingers of one hand.”
The former Barcelona player then opened up on Real Madrid’s exit from the UEFA Champions League earlier in the week and explained who he blamed for the result.
“If anyone is to blame, it’s Camavinga. His foul was catastrophic,” he said, lashing out at the midfielder’s carelessness.
When asked if the Frenchman’s red card was deserved or if Real Madrid were right to be frustrated at the refereeing, he said,
“The red card was harsh, but the referee Slavko Vincic applied the rules. Madrid always hides behind the referees.”
