Angel Gomes’ upbeat assessment of life at Wolves has given fresh encouragement that a permanent stay could be on the table this summer after his mid-season arrival and rapid settling in.

The player said on the club website that Rob Edwards has been important for him, recalling their time together at under-20 level. He praised Edwards’ ambition and said he already feels settled in a positive, detail-focused environment.

His arrival raised eyebrows given Wolves’ league position, and some suggested the move was primarily to gain minutes and shop-window exposure. His latest remarks, however, hint that a longer stay is not out of the question.

Wolves hold an option to make the deal permanent, which would still require Gomes’ approval. The fee is thought to be about £6 million, a figure the club would likely have few qualms about paying.

Keeping him would be significant with Wanderers almost certain to be in the Championship next season, and the aim will be to return at the first attempt. Before the international break, Thierry Henry praised Gomes’ game-changing cameo against Brentford. With Andre likely to depart, his ability to dictate play could prove invaluable.
