Liverpool will welcome Southampton at Anfield this Tuesday night as they look to secure a win in the EFL Cup. The Reds managed to earn a 2-1 win over Everton in the Merseyside club recently, which should keep them in good spirits ahead of this game.

Arne Slot will set his men up in a 4-2-3-1 formation and is expected to make a lot of changes to his first XI for this clash. Jeremie Frimpong, Andy Robertson and Giovanni Leoni could all play from the start of this game as Slot looks to give some of his first-team stars a well-deserved rest.

Defence

Giorgi Mamardashvili will function in goal for the Reds as he looks to keep a clean sheet at home. Joe Gomez will play alongside Giovanni Leoni at the centre of Slot’s defence as they look to keep things solid at the back during the game.

Conor Bradley will fill in as the right-back, while Andy Robertson hopes to impress on the other side as the left-back. Both of them will get the freedom to go forward and express themselves in the final third.

Ibrahima Konate and Milos Kerkez will offer cover for the defensive positions on the bench.

Midfield

Curtis Jones will anchor the midfield along with Wataru Endo as they focus on establishing their dominance over the opposition at the centre of the park.

The gifted trio of Cody Gakpo, Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong could play just ahead of them as part of the Liverpool attack. All three of them need to combine well if Liverpool are to secure a convincing win versus the Saints this Tuesday night.

Rio Ngumoha and Alexis Mac Allister will be named on the bench as they wait for their chance to make an impact in the second half if required.

Attack

Federico Chiesa will lead the charge for the Merseyside club in the final third. He would be eager to find the back of the net in midweek.

Hugo Ekitike will be rested on the bench and might come on to influence the game in the latter stages if the Reds are in need of a goal by then.
