This summer's international tournaments are over, but how do Liverpool's players who represented their countries rank when it comes to performance and success?

Euro 2024 and Copa America have taken centre stage in recent months, with transfer news largely quiet.

Both tournaments are now done and dusted, however, and it won't be too long until Arne Slot has a full Liverpool squad at his disposal for pre-season.

The question is: who impressed the most out of this summer's 13 international Reds players?

=11. Joe Gomez, Ibrahima Konate & Ryan Gravenberch

Frankly, it is only right that Joe Gomez, Ibrahima Konate and Ryan Gravenberch rank joint-lowest, following a summer that saw all of them with their feet up on the substitutes' bench.

None of the trio played a single minute of action at the Euros, even though the left-back spot was crying out for Gomez to play there for England. He must wonder why Gareth Southgate bothered calling him up.

Meanwhile, Konate suffered the blow of being behind William Saliba and Dayot Upamecano in the centre-back pecking order for France, while Gravenberch was an unused figure despite injuries to key Netherlands midfield pair Frenkie de Jong and Teun Koopmeiners.

On the plus side, the Liverpool trio didn't exert much energy back in Germany, and should be fresh heading into next season.

10. Diogo Jota

Diogo Jota only featured for 99 minutes in the Euros, which was scandalous when you look at how ineffective Cristiano Ronaldo was for Portugal.

The Liverpool attacker was only handed three substitute appearances, and while that wasn't his fault, he was unable to have much of an impact.

That being said, he still won the penalty that Ronaldo missed against Slovenia, and should have started every game. His introduction against Czechia in the opening match had a big impact too.

9. Andy Robertson

Scotland arguably looked like the most limited side at the Euros, so it is perhaps unfair to expect too much from Andy Robertson.

Captaining his country at a major tournament was a proud moment for the left-back, but he never showed top form throughout the tournament and couldn't affect games in a positive enough manner.

It was a case of three forgettable group games and then time for a holiday for Robertson, who is now already back for pre-season at Liverpool.

8. Dominik Szoboszlai

There were some who thought Hungary could be dark horses at Euro 2024, but their performance levels were lacking, as they crashed out in the group stage.

Szoboszlai cut a frustrated figure at times, both with his teammates and at his own form, but he did provide one lovely assist from out wide in the 3-1 defeat to Switzerland.

7. Alisson

Although among the best goalkeepers in the world for nearly a decade, Alisson has been under scrutiny for the Brazil team of late. Supporters and pundits worry that the 31-year-old is a little more uncertain playing for the national team than he is for his club side. And Brazil's poor showing at the Copa America brought out the criticism all over again.

"I see Alisson feel very pressured and he's very erratic when playing for Brazil, at Liverpool he doesn't make those mistakes and he doesn't come close to making an error," prominent pundit Walace Borges said during the tournament.

"His decision-making is also a lot better, but I feel he makes those for Brazil due to pressure. I see him bothered in goal, and maybe that's because he gives people the opportunity to criticise him when wearing the Brazil shirt."

There are calls for Alisson to drop out of the team in favour of Bento - who has just moved to Al-Nassr - and Brazil crashing out at the quarter-final stage has done Alisson no favours.

He conceded twice in three matches during an underwhelming group stage where Brazil only won one game, before Darwin Nunez's Uruguay put the Brazilians out on penalties. A summer to forget.

6. Trent Alexander-Arnold

When Trent Alexander-Arnold was named in midfield for England's opener against Serbia, it felt like a refreshingly brave call by Gareth Southgate.

It took little time for him to give up on the Liverpool superstar, however, taking him off in the first two games and eventually consigning him to the bench, unfathomably not bringing him on when creativity was needed at certain times.

The fact that Southgate has seemingly never fully rated Alexander-Arnold says far more about him than the uniquely-gifted Reds man, and he may be quietly delighted that a new manager is coming in.

He did however have his moment to shine, netting the winning penalty in the quarter-finals against the Swiss.

5. Virgil van Dijk

It does feel like Virgil van Dijk is held to higher standards than any other defender, so when he simply plays well, he won't receive the praise that others do.

The Dutchman was generally dependable at the Euros, albeit it was a tournament that included the odd uncharacteristic lapse, and he was a key reason for his country reaching the semi-finals.

Van Dijk started all six matches, winning an average of 3.2 aerial duels per game and completing 90.6% of his passes, and Ronald Koeman's side wouldn't have got as far without him.

4. Luis Diaz

Luis Duaz has his critics at Liverpool, but there is no denying that he enjoyed a positive Copa America campaign for Colombia.

The 27-year-old was an influential performer en route to reaching the final, scoring twice in six appearances and wreaking havoc with his direct, unpredictable style.

Diaz averaged 2.5 dribbles per match, which is a noticeable increase on his tally of 1.8 in the Premier League last season, suggesting he was playing with a little more freedom and confidence.

It is going to be fascinating to see how he fares under Slot, with an extra gear needing to be found if he wants to go down as a Liverpool great.

3. Darwin Nunez

It feels like Darwin Nunez is rarely out of the headlines, and that again proved to be the case during a dramatic Copa America tournament.

The Liverpool hero matched Diaz's total of two goals, continuing to be an influential player under Marcelo Bielsa, before eventually bowing out at the semi-final stage. An average of 2.2 dribbles per game was a huge increase on his tally of 0.4 in the league in 2023/24.

Nunez's tournament ended with him fighting Colombia fans after Uruguay's semi-final loss, and while plenty of criticism came his way, he was simply defending his family, summing up his character.

2. Alexis Mac Allister

Alexis Mac Allister has become a winning machine at international level, proving to be a vital cog in the machine for Argentina during a glorious period of success.

The 25-year-old followed up Copa America and World Cup success by winning the former once again this summer, starting five matches in the process.

Mac Allister registered two assists in that time, showcasing his versatility by playing in deeper and more attacking midfield roles, and it was another excellent tournament for him personally.

What a footballer he is.

1. Cody Gakpo

While it was tempting to put Mac Allister at No.1, considering he actually won a trophy, Cody Gakpo enjoyed the most impressive summer out of Liverpool's international players.

He consistently stood out as the Netherlands best attacking player - probably their best player in general, for that matter - and no player at the Euros beat his total of three goals.

Gakpo not only showed what a good finisher he is, but he also gave Slot food for through by thriving in a left-sided role, rather than the central berth Jurgen Klopp often played him in.

The Dutchman has his detractors - some feel he doesn't get the most out of his talent and stature - but if he replicates this summer's form back at Liverpool, they could have a serious player in their ranks.
