Fulham fans have been reacting to the Carabao Cup quarter-final draw that has seen them pull out Newcastle United away.
Marco Silva and his players were lucky to reach the last eight, as they needed a second half equaliser against League One Wycombe and then penalties, to finally get through on Tuesday night.
Wednesday nights saw Newcastle United become one of five clubs to join Fulham, Brentford and Cardiff in the quarter-finals, with Palace, Chelsea, Man City and Arsenal also getting through.
Only four days after Fulham fans saw Newcastle United (eventually) deservedly beat Silva’s team in the Premier League, they were the last two clubs left to pull out in the draw last night, with Arsenal v Palace, Cardiff v Chelsea and Man City v Brentford having already been pulled out. Thankfully it was Newcastle United the seventh ball out, so it is home to Fulham.
One other major positive of drawing Fulham, is the number of seats they will (not!) be taking up.
For a 3pm Saturday match, only 1,700 Fulham fans bought tickets for St James’ Park last weekend.
With the Carabao Cup quarter-finals set to be played a week before Christmas on a midweek night, fair to say I don’t think we will see them taking the maximum 4,900 tickets that Fulham fans would be entitled to.
So this should mean that bonus extra thousands of Newcastle United fans will get into the quarter-final clash, compared to last night when Spurs fans took the full 4,900 allocation.
Fulham fans comments on the Newcastle United cup draw via their FulhamWeb and Friends of Fulham message boards:
‘Away to Newcastle is a bad draw while Chelsea got the easy fixture in Cardiff.
I saw Newcastle apply their “bully” tactics against Spurs while the ref (and linos) favoured the home team. They will do the same to Fulham who are the worst refereed team in the league.
Despite that, Fulham must be prepared and have a plan to hurt them.
We should play a strong team and be ready for a physical battle.
We looked listless against lowly Wycombe and must get our form back.’
‘Not the greatest of draws certainly the worst from a travelling perspective midweek away at Newcastle a week before Christmas.
The only upside is Forest game is on the Monday the following week as opposed to the weekend?
Draw looks favourable for the four bigger teams lining up in the semi final.’
‘Terrible for travelling so close to Christmas but Arsenal,Man City & Chelsea would’ve been worse. Actually think Newcastle are far more beatable than all them, probably didn’t want Palace either now they’ve gone up a level.’
‘Can’t complain.
Apart from being three miles from the pitch when seated, it’s a great city and a great night out.
Geordies are always welcoming.
I predict pens again.’

‘A lot of stairs to climb as an away supporter.
I do not want to travel all that way to see two second teams playing what will look like a poor friendly.
I admire the people who do go but do no not complain for you get what you expect.’
‘Did anyone see any of the other games? The only Premier League team that played a decent game was Palace all the other had reserves out and you could clearly see why they don’t play very often. Most of the managers seem to believe that their best players may get injured in what they think a tinpot cup competition.’
‘I think we will beat them.’
‘Not a great draw really. I watched the Palace game last night and the football they played was just sublime pass, move, drive, just fantastic. I do hope Silva can rememdy the Parkerball v2 slow buildup play and become more adventurous and less predictable’
‘A lot can happen between now and then, Newcastle have more games to play and a smaller squad.’
‘Cups fixtures are strange animals, it doesn’t always go with the form team. I’m just pleased it wasn’t Citeh.’
‘It is a conspiracy to get us relegated.’
‘We have to go for it otherwise our players and staff haven’t got a choice and the 2010 europa word has come out now BELIEVE which was everywhere in the cottage which all Roy’s players bought into as did us supporters and it was a wonderful season.
Everyone BELIEVE BEIEVE’
‘The numbers were issued in alphabetical order but using the home team in the ties that had not been played until Wednesday. If they had waited until all the ties had finished then the numbers would have been. 1,Arsenal 2,Brentford 3,Cardiff 4,Chelsea 5,Crystal Palace 6,Fulham 7,Man City 8,Newcastle We would have been home to Cardiff.’
‘And if your aunt had been your uncle. she’d have had cough drops. (Courtesy of my grandad.)’
‘We largely outplayed Newcastle the other day save for the first 10 minutes when they did look good, but it fizzled out and we took over.
Bassey was their MoM setting up two goals for them.
In the second half at 1 1 we were the only likely winners, newcastle were poor but Bassey killed us stone dead in the game with that second incomprehensible error.
I imagine he will not do that again and see absolutely no reason we cannot go there and get a top class win.’
‘With four balls left in the pot, I was hoping for Brentford. But this is fine and to my recollection the only recent times they’ve played us off the park we were down to ten men.
Look at it this way. What are the chances of Newcastle winning this competition twice in a row? Pretty slim given it’s Newcastle and they now have European football to distract them. Only three teams can possibly stop them, we are one of them and we have first dibs.
That logic might not withstand rigorous statistical scrutiny, but it’s best to remain positive.’
‘The Maggots are beatable IMO.’
‘Their match on the Sunday 14th December is away at Sunderland so that might take a bit out of them before they play us.’
