Chelsea’s interest in Filipe Luís faces competition from Fulham, with the former Flamengo coach seeking a move to Europe and awaiting offers.
ESPN reports that Fulham are assessing candidates to take charge next season if required, with Filipe Luís among the options. Head coach Marcos Silva is under contract until June this year and has yet to respond to a renewal offer.
The main hurdle for any move to England is his lack of a UEFA Pro Licence, a requirement even in the country’s second division. Without the certification, an appointment is not feasible.
Filipe Luís and his agent, Jorge Mendes, are working with the Brazilian Football Confederation on legal and administrative steps to accelerate and validate the necessary documentation.
He oversaw 101 games at Flamengo, recording 64 wins, 22 draws and 15 defeats, a 70% return. His tenure brought seven trophies, including the Copa do Brasil, Supercopa do Brasil, Carioca, Brasileirão, Libertadores, Derby das Américas and Challenger Cup.
Despite a historic 2025, Flamengo started 2026 poorly, finishing runners-up in the Supercopa do Brasil and the Recopa Sul-Americana. A strained relationship with president Bap culminated in his dismissal in early March.
Flamengo, now led by Leonardo Jardim, visit Vitória at the Barradão on Thursday 14 at 21h30 Brasília time in the Copa do Brasil fifth-round second leg. After a 2-1 win in the first leg, a draw would be enough to reach the last 16.
