Tom Bischof has not only secured a new jersey number at FC Bayern, but also an unusual sponsorship partner. The 21-year-old is now promoting the card game Uno—a move that ties in with a passion he has long celebrated publicly.

The midfielder introduced his new sponsor on Instagram. Of all things, the colorful card game has become the promotional focus for the youngster at Germany’s record-holding champions. The deal fits the story: Bischof enjoys playing Uno in his free time and even hinted at it on the field recently.

The number eight also played a role in the new partnership—the number Bischof recently took on at FC Bayern. Previously, the midfielder wore number 20; now he wears number 8 on his jersey. Bischof explained the change to BILD as follows: “As a kid, you naturally dream of the number 10. I always wanted that one back then, too. Now I’ve moved back a bit and play more as a defensive midfielder, so the number 8 fits pretty well.”

There was no friction within the team over the switch, as the 21-year-old explicitly emphasized. He first waited to see if his teammate Aleksandar Pavlović wanted the number himself: “I waited to see what Aleks Pavlović would do. He’s been here longer, he’s a good friend of mine, and I really respect him. I talked to him and waited to see if he wanted the number eight. But Pavlo is sticking with his number, so that’s how I ended up taking the number eight. I’m very happy about that. I asked, and they showed me their trust relatively early on by letting me have it.”

From locker-room tradition to goal celebrations

At Säbener Straße, Uno has long been more than just a pastime. The trio of Pavlović, Bischof, and Lennart Karl, in particular, loves to play the game. DAZN journalist Lisa Tellers posted a photo in March of the three of them playing a round of Uno at the Munich bar “Wagners Juicery.” The DFB stars are also said to have played a lot during the World Cup.

The fun even spilled over onto the field. During the Champions League second-leg match against Bergamo (4–1) on March 19, Karl and Bischof celebrated Karl’s goal with a joint Uno celebration: Both pretended to flip over imaginary cards.

(function(){ var iframe=document.getElementById(‚polls-fcbinside‘); if(!iframe)return; window.addEventListener(‚message‘,function(e){ if(e.source!==iframe.contentWindow)return; var d=e.data||{}; if(d.type===’FOOTY_WIDGET_HEIGHT’&&typeof d.height===’number‘){iframe.style.height=d.height+’px‘;} }); })();

Meanwhile, the question of who is the best Uno player on the team is causing a bit of friendly banter. Before the Bergamo game, Bischof was confident: “I’m clearly the best at Uno! There’s no arguing with that.” Pavlovic saw it differently—and called out to him audibly in the cafeteria: “Why do you say you’re the best at Uno?”

With the new sponsorship deal, Bischof’s passion is now on display even outside the locker room. The youngster is combining his hobby with a sponsor—and it fits perfectly with the new number on his jersey.
