After the defeat against Lazio, Matteo Gabbia spoke to the media and shared his thoughts on what is a very difficult situation for AC Milan. He also aimed a dig at Sergio Conceicao for the approach to the game, even if he also expressed respect.

It ended up being a dramatic ending at San Siro as Lazio converted a penalty in injury time, following a Samuel Chukwueze equaliser despite Milan being down to ten men. While it was a shame to concede so late, the Biancocelesti perhaps ‘deserved’ to win based on the chances they had.

Speaking to DAZN, as transcribed by MilanNews, Gabbia shared his thoughts on what went wrong for the Rossoneri this evening. He stated that it has become normal for the team to have poor first halves, which should never be the case.

How can you return from this rock bottom?

“There is a lot of disappointment in the locker room. It’s normal that it’s like this. The moment is largely negative. What we have to do is unite, be even more of a group and a team. There are 11 games left and we have to play them with the utmost pride and desire to end the season in the best possible way.”

On the approach to the game…

“It has become normal that the second half is much better than the first, but it’s not good that it’s like this. We will have to speak with the coach to see where we went wrong. Often it also depends on us and what we put on the pitch, we [the players] also need to take our responsibilities.”

In Zagreb, Conceicao said “The foundations are missing”. What is your reaction to such a comment?

“We respect his analysis and we are trying to do better. The coach makes the choices and puts in the maximum effort as we do. Many times things don’t come out the way we want and it’s right that we take the consequences. I don’t think I have to respond critically to the coach’s words. I just try to give the best of myself: we’re all in the same boat even when things are going well. He tries to motivate us every day.”

Milan are now in ninth place (!) and will be up against Lecce next, scheduled to make the trip down south for a Saturday game. Marco Giampaolo’s side are fighting for salvation and could make life even more difficult for the Rossoneri.
