Santos opened their Brasileirão campaign with a 4-2 defeat at Chapecoense, where individual errors, notably from Alexis Duarte, undermined a performance that was not poor overall at Arena Condá in Chapécó.
According to Diario Do Peixe, Gabriel Menino was the standout, scoring a superb goal and driving the team forward, while Miguelito created their clearest chances. Barreal struck the other Santos goal, supplied by Zé Rafael.
Gabriel Brazão saw every shot on target beat him yet was not directly at fault, rated 5.0. Igor Vinicius offered little going forward, 5.0. Duarte was blamed for at least two of Chapecoense’s goals and struggled on the others, 2.0, while Luan Peres failed to shield the box, 5.0. Vinicius Lira was involved in two concessions and missed a good chance, 4.0.
João Schmidt found some neat passes but failed to stop the move for the opener, 4.5. Menino was the pick with a stunner and significant attacking thrust, 7.5. Gabriel Bontempo and Rollheiser played too little to rate.
Zé Rafael improved on recent outings and teed up Barreal, 6.5. Robinho repeatedly dribbled then lost possession, 4.0. Caballero was peripheral and error prone, 3.0.
Barreal combined well for his goal, 6.5. Lautaro Díaz’s only bright moment was a header against the bar, 4.5. Fernando Pradella had limited influence, 5.0. Head coach Juan Pablo Vojvoda, constrained by a weak squad, could have been bolder with changes, 5.0.
