Galatasaray earned a 1-1 draw in Istanbul thanks to an own goal from Marcos Llorente, keeping both sides in contention in the Champions League group stage.

The visitors took an early lead in the fourth minute when Davinson Sánchez miscontrolled a clearance. Matteo Ruggeri delivered a low cross from the left, and Giuliano Simeone headed home from close range.

Atletico’s advantage lasted only 16 minutes. Roland Sallai sent a low ball into the box from the right, and Llorente, unchallenged and facing his own goal, deflected the ball into the net to level the scores.

Atletico pressed for a winner, but neither side could find a breakthrough.

The draw leaves Atletico on 13 points from seven games. A win at home against Bodo/Glimt in their final group match would secure a last-16 place.

Galatasaray, on 10 points, must beat Manchester City at the Etihad to guarantee a play-off spot, although a draw may also suffice depending on other results.
