Check out some of the best images from our Subway Women’s League Cup win against Nottingham Forest, with the three points guaranteeing our spot in the knockout stages.
It was a professional display from Andree Jeglertz’s side, who were tested by Forest on numerous occasions; however, some smart defending and a clinical touch in the final third, City got the job done.
The Blues came out wanting to establish their ability and authority on the game immediately, knowing that a win was required to guarantee they would remain in the League Cup heading into 2026.
While City dominated the opening exchanges, it took over half an hour before the deadlock was broken, thanks to Grace Clinton.
Our first goalscorer played the ball to Laura Coombs on the right before darting into the box looking for a return pass, which certainly came via a Bunny Shaw dummy, although our deadline day signing to slot home beyond Emily Batty from close range.
With just seven first-half minutes left to play, Lauren Hemp doubled our advantage at the City Ground with one of the easiest goals she’ll have scored in her career.
A Yui Hasegawa corner curled and hit the post despite it looking to be heading in and beyond Batty, but much to Hemp’s delight, it bounced off the post and to her feet while standing on the line, so she duly obliged to tap it home.
City stepped things up a gear after the restart and pinned Forest back into their own defensive third for the majority of the second half, but failed to register that third goal, although there were opportunities for both Coombs and Iman Beney, who hit the woodwork.
Jeglertz, who is managing in the Subway Women’s League Cup for the first time in his career, will have been happy to see City progress out of Group A with two wins and a draw.
