Liverpool boss Gareth Taylor has been left frustrated after the injury sustained by Grace Fisk while away on England duty.
The Reds return to Women’s Super League action on Saturday, when they host European champions Arsenal.
However, they are likely to be without their captain, following an update provided by Taylor on Liverpool’s official website.
Gareth Taylor confirmed that Grace Fisk will be out of action for the next 10 days, meaning she will miss the WSL clash with Arsenal.
It means she could also miss the rearranged clash against Aston Villa on December 11th.
Taylor said that the injury “comes at a really bad time” due to a limited number of options in defence.
He said: “It looks like we will be missing Fisky for the next 10 days, which has come at a really bad time for us.
“It’s a frustrating one, and we are quite limited in terms of options with Risa Shimizu still missing.
“Lucy Parry will come into contention, but she’s on limited minutes in terms of playing 90 minutes, so we’ll have to wait and see what we do at right-back.”
Taylor’s comments come after Sarina Wiegman said Fisk suffered a minor calf injury and had withdrawn from the England squad.
It means that Fisk also misses out on the chance of making her England debut against Ghana on Tuesday night. Fisk had a strong chance of making her debut as Sarina Wiegman promised to experiment the squad during the friendly with Ghana.
Liverpool arrive into Saturday’s game against Arsenal still without a win in the WSL.
However, they showed recent improvement with draws against Brighton and reigning WSL champions Chelsea.
As well as injuries in defence, Liverpool are also missing some key players higher up the field.
Sophie Roman Haug suffered an ACL injury, just days after Marie Hobinger suffered the same injury.
Alejandra Bernabe has played just seven minutes all season in a recent League Cup victory over Sheffield United after returning from injury.
Liverpool could look to spend the money generated from the £1m sale of Olivia Smith, during the January transfer window. Steph Houghton has urged Liverpool to spend the money and boost their chances as they look to avoid finishing bottom of the WSL.
The Reds will hope to have Fisk available for what looks to be a six-pointer against struggling West Ham on December 14th.
