Gary Rowett has emerged as favourite for the Blackburn Rovers vacancy while his Leicester City future remains uncertain. According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, he finished the season in charge at City but appears unlikely to be appointed for League One.
Michael O’Neill has confirmed he will not continue at Ewood Park after steering Blackburn to safety while also leading Northern Ireland. He will now return to international management full-time, focusing on preparations for Euro 2028.
Rowett is the early market leader at 4/1 with BetVictor after O’Neill’s exit, his extensive Championship experience a factor. Competition includes former Rovers boss Tony Mowbray at 6/1, plus David Wagner, Slaven Bilic and Graham Alexander.
Rowett’s contract at Leicester has expired and, while he has made his case to take the job in League One, a fresh start under a new manager is expected. His 14-game stint yielded two wins, including a 1-0 victory over Blackburn on the final day courtesy of Stephy Mavididi.
It is 11 days since Leicester’s final match of the season, and little progress appears to have been made towards an appointment, with no contenders emerging publicly.
TalkSportBet list Darren Ferguson at 4/6 to take the City post, with Birmingham manager and former Leicester assistant Chris Davies at 5/2. Russell Martin is priced at 4/1, and title-winning left-back Christian Fuchs at 6/1.
Leicester will aim to move quicker than last year, when Marti Cifuentes was not appointed until mid-July, part way into pre-season.
