Gian Piero Gasperini spoke to Sky Sport after the Juventus-Roma match, in which the Giallorossi were defeated at the Allianz Stadium.

“We made too many poor passes in attack; there were opportunities to create danger,” the coach began. “This is something we know, but I would emphasize the team’s performance despite the absences we had.”

“Roma must be confident, they must build a strong squad, and they have a good foundation,” the coach said, speaking of his squad.

He then spoke about the players who posed the most problems for Roma: “Conceicao and Yildiz are strong players. Unfortunately, we conceded at half-time, but in the first half we conceded very little. Juve had a little more space.”

He then highlighted the defensive performances: “But it was a high-level performance, also from Rensch and Ziolkowski, who have played less this season. We can build on this foundation.”

“Regarding head-to-head matches… We lost to the top teams, except Juventus, but we beat Como, Bologna, and Lazio, who are right behind us. If you lose three or four matches, you’re a bit less advantaged. But we’re just starting out; we have a strong club and a player base that has held its own in these matches. Roma can think about building a future on the present,” Gasperini added, speaking of the results against their direct rivals for fourth place.

Finally, he explained why he chose to leave Evan Ferguson on the bench: “Ferguson isn’t convincing me. Even in the second half, for a long time. He hasn’t quite got into the swing of things yet, along with others. But we have a very solid team. Dybala and Soulé were served very well and have superior technical quality. I would make the same decisions again.”

Shortly afterward, he emphasized the need to strengthen the attack in January on Dazn: “Whoever started the game is who I think is doing best. It’s clear that Roma is currently trying to improve and strengthen themselves in that area of the pitch.”
