Italy’s defeat against Bosnia triggered a domino effect at the top of Italian football.
Following the resignations of former FIGC president Gabriele Gravina and Gianluigi Buffon, Gennaro Gattuso also bid farewell. The coach is leaving the national team less than a year after his arrival.
He said: “With a heavy heart, having failed to achieve the goal we had set ourselves, I consider my time as coach of the national team to be over. The Azzurri jersey is the most precious asset in football, so it’s right to facilitate future technical evaluations from the outset.”
In this context of general change, the name of Gian Piero Gasperini emerges.
According to Michele Criscitiello on Sportitalia, the current Roma coach is at the top of Giovanni Malagò’s wish list.
The CONI President, should he be elected as FIGC president in the June 22 elections, intends to entrust Gasperini with the technical reconstruction.
