Gavi explains why he is not a regular starter for Barcelona yet

For Gavi, FC Barcelona has always been his dream club and one where he hopes to succeed. From the youth academy to the first team, his determination and commitment has never wavered. Fortunately for Barcelona, that has always been good news.

Yet, especially over the course of the last two seasons, Gavi has had to struggle with an ACL injury. Even after his return, the player now sees other Barça stars ahead of him with their starting roles cemented under Hansi Flick.

Gavi Speaks Candidly About His Role and the Competition

Speaking recently to RAC1, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo, the young midfielder addressed his current role in the team and why he isn’t a regular starter just yet:

Honestly, I’ve had a great relationship with the coach since he arrived. I think he really likes me and has always supported me. That doesn’t necessarily mean anything—some people might say ‘but he starts many games on the bench’. But that has nothing to do with it. For example, Frenkie and Pedri are in great form in that position, and they’re among the best in the world.

Rather than showing frustration, Gavi has accepted the competitive nature of the squad with maturity. His focus remains on self-improvement and earning his place back in the starting eleven:

That’s just how it is, and it’s very difficult to earn that spot. But I’m sure that with my mindset, I can fight any player. The coach has always believed in me, and I’m really happy with him. I hope he stays for many years.

Currently shining during Barça’s preseason tour in Asia, Gavi is making his presence felt once again. The competition is intense, but the young Spaniard has never shied away from a challenge. Despite ongoing transfer rumors, his words and actions make it clear that his heart is set on succeeding at Barcelona.
