Fikayo Tomori does not want to leave AC Milan, and the change in head coach from Paulo Fonseca to Sergio Conceicao could well give him a clean slate.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, there have been real negotiations between Juventus and Tomori’s entourage plus Milan’s management, as they sensed a chance to land him in January.

After not playing much under Fonseca, the Englishman perhaps had a thought about a return to the Premier League or a move to Juventus, but now things have changed.

In fact, Tomori has told the directors that he intends to stay at Milanello to play for a starting spot under Conceiçao. The chances of him leaving are still not zero, especially if Matteo Gabbia and Malick Thiaw were also immovable starters for the new coach.

From today to February 3rd there is a lot of time for evaluations and the scenarios can change suddenly, but for the time being Tomori is clear: he wants to stay. He has a close bond with the likes of Mike Maignan, Rafael Leao, Theo Hernandez, Davide Calabria and Gabbia, who encouraged him to stay.

Tomori spoke clearly with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada about his desire, and not the management cannot bank on getting around €25m. Milan will not need to buy another central defender though, so Cristhian Mosquera of Valencia and Antonio Silva are not a priority.

In reality, closing the deal with the Bianconeri would not have been the best for the Diavolo. On the one hand the club does not intend to keep dissatisfied players, but on the other the Pierre Kalulu operation shows that a rival can benefit.

So far Tomori has had a less than exciting season: he started out as a starter alongside Strahinja Pavlovic, but quickly lost his place.

After he handed the ball to his friend Tammy Abraham for the penalty kick that should have been taken by Christian Pulisic in Florence, he has played an even more marginal role.

In the 10 league games after the defeat against Fiorentina, he has collected three appearances for a total of 14 minutes of use. In total he has 15 appearances and just over 1,000 minutes played.
