Geertruida has been drafted into the Netherlands’ World Cup squad to replace the injured Jurriën Timber.
According to BuLi News, Ronald Koeman made the late call for the 25-year-old, who spent the season at Sunderland on loan from RB Leipzig.

He is set to return to his parent club, with Sunderland not willing to activate their €23 million option to buy.
Timber was deemed unfit for the tournament, despite featuring in Arsenal’s Champions League defeat to PSG.
Including appearances against France and Austria at Euro 2024, Geertruida has 21 caps for the national team.
Koeman had previously cited fitness concerns when omitting Jeremie Frimpong, and has now opted for Geertruida instead.
The Netherlands begin their campaign against Japan on 14 June.
