Earthy missed the majority of pre-season after suffering an ankle ligament injury before West Ham travelled to Germany for their pre-season training camp in Germany at the start of July.

The 20-year-old has been promoted to the first team following a successful loan spell at Bristol City last season.

West Ham, who lodged an improved bid for Mateus Fernandes on Wednesday, are looking for options in midfield and will be boosted by the return of Earthy, who is highly regarded by the club.

Crysencio Summerville remains out as he steps up his recovery from hamstring surgery.

The expectation is that the Dutch winger will be available after the September international break.

The 23-year-old is viewed as an important part of West Ham’s squad, but his recovery won’t be rushed.

Luis Guilherme is still missing after suffering a shoulder injury in training ahead of last weekend’s 3-0 defeat to Sunderland.

Goalkeeper Mads Hermansen, who signed from Leicester City at the start of August, faced criticism for his performance on debut at the Stadium of Light, but Graham Potter said he was not concerned by the Dane’s performance.

"He will play tomorrow [against Chelsea],” Potter said in his pre-match press conference.

Potter was in defiant mood, saying he has no doubts about his managerial ability, and was clearly aware of the pressure on his shoulders, even at this early stage of the new campaign.

However, despite a positive pre-season, tomorrow’s game feels crucial for Potter’s future after a disappointing display against Sunderland on the opening weekend.
