The German national team suffered a defeat against Ecuador in its third World Cup group stage match. The DFB team, which had already secured first place in the group before the match, lost 1-2 to the Ecuadorians. Five FC Bayern players were in the starting lineup— prospective new signing Nathaniel Brown was rested. Leon Goretzka sat on the bench for the entire match. Here are the FCBinside individual player ratings for the Bayern stars.

Manuel Neuer: Neuer can’t be blamed for the goal that tied the game at 1–1. Neuer made a good save on a shot by Valencia. There was one moment where Neuer didn’t look good, but only because Tah poked the ball away from him just before it reached his hands. On the second goal, Neuer could have cleared the ball more decisively inside his own five-meter box. Grade: 3.

Joshua Kimmich: Had a strong pass completion rate and was aggressive in most tackles. The captain was substituted after an hour. Up until then, the game was still under control. A solid performance from Kimmich. Grade: 3.

Jonathan Tah: Tah played a decent game at the start. But then he caused a dangerous moment due to a miscommunication with Neuer. He should have let the keeper have the ball there. On the goal that made it 1–2, he gave the scorer, Plata, too much space in his own five-meter box. That was a naive defensive mistake. Grade: 4.

Aleksandar Pavlovic: Set up Sané’s goal to make it 1–0. He was lucky, though, that the play wasn’t called for a high leg. On the 1-1 goal, Pavlovic was a step too late to block the shot by Angulo. Pavlovic was substituted at halftime. Grade: 3.

Jamal Musiala: Took a shot from a dangerous position in the penalty area in the first half, but it was blocked. Otherwise, Musiala posed no threat whatsoever. If Germany wants to be successful in this tournament, the No. 10 absolutely must get back on track. Grade: 4.
