Germany moved another step closer to World Cup qualification with a convincing 4-0 victory over Luxembourg at the PreZero Arena.
Julian Nagelsmann's side were on the front foot from the first whistle, and although a Serge Gnabry effort was ruled out for handball inside the opening three minutes, Germany quickly set the tone.
David Raum put the hosts ahead in the 12th minute with a well-taken free-kick, before the match swung decisively in Germany’s favour just after the half-hour mark.
Dirk Carlson’s reckless challenge saw him sent off, and Germany were awarded a penalty, which captain Joshua Kimmich calmly converted to make it 2-0.
The second half was all Germany. Serge Gnabry finally got his goal in the 48th minute, before Kimmich tapped home from a corner two minutes later, putting the game beyond doubt at 4-0 inside five minutes of the restart.
From there, the hosts continued to dominate possession and create chances, with Raum, Wirtz, Gnabry, and Goretzka all seeing opportunities go begging.
The win lifts Germany to the top of Group A alongside Slovakia and Northern Ireland, giving them a strong platform as they continue their World Cup qualifying campaign.
