In the second act of their March international friendlies as the build up to the 2026 World Cup starts to gather speed, the German National Team take on Ghana this coming Monday, 30 March. Kick-off at the MHP Arena in Stuttgart is set for 7:45pm.
Germany will be eager to maintain their fine form which saw them comfortably book a place at this summer's tournament in the USA, Canada and Mexico. They're currently enjoying a six-game winning streak which started last September.
Friday night's game proved to be a bit of a thriller at St.Jakob-Park in Basel. Twice, the Swiss took the lead but Germany levelled on both occasions before the break. An in-form Florian Wirtz would strike either side of a Joel Monteiro goal in a 4-3 win.
“We'll now see how we come out of this game and which players are fit,” coach Nagelsmann said afterwards. There's some suggestion that a couple of new faces could be rotated into the starting lineup. Of course, this is one of the last chances for trial and error before summer.
As for the visitors Ghana, they encountered little to no difficulties in topping their World Cup qualifying group in first-place with 8 wins alongside a solitary draw and defeat. Time is also of the essence for them to iron out any remaining issues.
One such concern for coach Otto Addo -- yes, the Hamburg-born attacker who lined out for Hannover 96, Dortmund and Mainz in his playing days -- will be the 5-1 pasting his team received against Austria on Friday. The hope is there will be no lasting hangover from the defeat.
"This is an amazing opportunity for us to test ourselves against one of the best teams in the world," Addo said, regarding four-time world champions Germany. The 50-year-old still backs his side who he feels "has the quality to keep up" with Julian Nagelsmann's side.
The Black Stars, who are heading to their fifth ever World Cup in summer, will want to ride in on a high. A challenging group boasting the likes of England and Croatia makes this clash with Germany all the more meaningful, testing themselves against one of Europe's footballing elite.
Germany: Julian Nagelsmann has a wide array of options despite Jonas Urbig (knee) having to withdraw, while the likes of Felix Nmecha (torn knee ligament) and Aleksandar Pavlović (hip) didn't travel. Jamal Musiala was also given a much-needed rest amid fears of aggravating some slight problems.
Ghana: One notable absentee for the Black Stars is Mohammed Kudus (hamstring). Meanwhile, Athletic Bilbao's Inaki Williams and Brandon Thomas-Asante of Coventry City (both unknown) are unavailable to Otto Addo on this occasion.
Germany (4-2-3-1): Baumann – Kimmich, Tah, Rüdiger, Brown – Stiller, Goretzka – Sané, Wirtz, Schade – Undav
Ghana (3-4-1-2): Ati-Zigi -- Djiku, Yirenkyi, Köhn – Adu, Sibo, Partey, Adjetey – Ayew – Semenyo, Fatawu
