Gerson was served by a court officer at a Rio de Janeiro hotel where Cruzeiro are based for their game with Flamengo, in a club lawsuit seeking R$ 42.7 million. According to Globo.com, the notification was delivered in the city’s South Zone.
FGM Sports, run by his father Marcão, has also been notified. The sum relates to image rights from his final Flamengo contract before moving to Zenit in July 2025.
Flamengo had long threatened legal action as Zenit weighed triggering his clause. Months of tension preceded a cool split in early July 2025. Then captain, he wanted improved terms despite a deal to 2027, and in April he accepted a rise and extended to 2030.
That renewal reduced his release clause from €200 million to €25 million, effectively setting a price that Zenit met in July. The contract also carried an indemnity payable to the club if he ended it unilaterally, equivalent to the remaining value, which underpins Flamengo’s claim. The club said he resigned and terminated the deal on his own.
After half a season in Russia, Cruzeiro bought him for €27 million plus €3 million in bonuses. His representatives declined to comment.
