There is already a war waging between Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini and chief advisor Claudio Ranieri but the situation at the Serie A side is threatening to blow over further.
The two were involved in a tense war of words on Friday. Wesley, who has impressed this season, was described as a Gasperini signing, as the manager called out the board for not signing players that he needed. Ranieri responded by clarifying that every signing was approved by Gasperini.
This cold war has taken a new turn. La Gazzetta dello Sport note that Gasperini is angry at the medical staff over the handling of Wesley’s injury.
The Italian wanted the Brazilian back by this week and he wanted him available for the tie against Atalanta at the weekend. But the medical staff have made sure that the return is delayed and the wing-back didn’t train with the squad even today.
He won’t even be available tomorrow, with the Giallorossi doctors not convinced by the latest fitness reports.
This has enraged Gasperini, with the medical staff often believed to be closer to Ranieri. Purely due to this Gasperini sought medical advice for the player from Georg Ahlbaumer, a Swiss doctor who is also preferred by the Friedkin ownership. That hasn’t helped, with the manager having sought the doctor when Matias Soule and Gianluca Mancini were injured too.
It increasingly appears as though this is another point of division between Ranieri and Gasperini.
