Manchester City have won successive Premier League Save of the Month awards for the very first time, off the back of their maiden triumph in the category back in August.

In another remarkable moment during his short time at the Etihad Stadium thus far, Gianluigi Donnarumma has made Premier League history by securing the Save of the Month award for September.

The Italian international, who joined Manchester City on deadline day from Paris Saint-Germain, has made an instant impact under Pep Guardiola by delivering commanding performances in both domestic and European competition.

Since arriving in England, Donnarumma has slotted seamlessly into City’s defensive setup, helping the team build an unbeaten run since the conclusion of the September international break.

His mix of agility, composure, and elite-level experience has already endeared him to supporters, with many hailing the 25-year-old as a perfect successor to Ederson in goal. City’s defence has looked particularly assured since his debut, with Donnarumma recording three clean sheets in his first six appearances and conceding just four goals in total.

The Premier League recognition now marks another early milestone in his Manchester City career and highlights his growing influence in a new environment.

As confirmed by the Premier League on Friday afternoon, Manchester City have won back-to-back Save of the Month awards in the English top-flight through Gianluigi Donnarumma’s remarkable stop to deny Bryan Mbeumo against Manchester United.

The award-winning save came during City’s commanding Manchester derby victory, when Donnarumma produced an astonishing one-handed stop to tip Mbeumo’s volley beyond the far post.

With the score at 2–0 at the time, the save preserved Manchester City’s control of the contest and underlined why Pep Guardiola’s coaching staff were so insistent on securing his signature during the summer window.

Donnarumma beat competition from several high-profile goalkeepers in Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez, Leeds United’s Karl Darlow, Burnley’s Martin Dubravka, Crystal Palace’s Dean Henderson, and Wolves’ Sam Johnstone to claim the monthly honour.

His success also means that Manchester City have now started the season with two consecutive winners of the award, following James Trafford’s August triumph for his stop against Brighton – having never previously won the award since its formation.

The recognition arrives in a week that has already seen Erling Haaland named Premier League Player of the Month, further reflecting the impressive start to the campaign made by Pep Guardiola’s squad.
