Manchester City will conduct a medical for Gianluigi Donnarumma on Monday as they close in on the signing of the Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper on deadline day, as per a new report.

City will see first-choice goalkeeper Ederson complete a transfer to Fenerbahce on the final day of a whirlwind transfer window, with Donnarumma identified as an ideal replacement for the departing Brazil international.

Ederson was on the bench for Manchester City on Sunday, with Brighton and Hove Albion coming from behind to inflict a second straight Premier League loss for Pep Guardiola’s side at the Amex Stadium.

James Trafford impressed on the south coast but the 22-year-old Manchester City academy graduate, who returned to his boyhood club from Burnley for £27 million in July, is set to witness a marquee addition to City’s goalkeeping department.

Manchester City have reached a full agreement to sign Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain on deadline, with Fabrice Hawkins reporting that the deal for the Italy international – who will sign a long-term contract at the Etihad Stadium – is worth €30 million plus add-ons.

Fabrizio Romano has further added that Manchester City have planned a medical for Donnarumma in Italy on Monday, with the 26-year-old expected to travel to Manchester to join up with Guardiola’s first-team squad after the September international break.

Donnarumma is believed to be keen on joining forces with Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium, with Manchester City understood to have agreed personal terms with the Paris Saint-Germain outcast over a month ago.

However, City were awaiting a resolution on the future of Ederson before they progressed a move for Donnarumma. With Ederson set to join Fenerbahce on deadline day, the domino has fallen and it will take Donnarumma to the blue side of Manchester.

Just months on from spearheading Paris Saint-Germain to their maiden UEFA Champions League title, Donnarumma and his representatives met an impasse in contract renewal talks with the Ligue 1 giants’ hierarchy, with the Italian’s current PSG deal expiring in 2026.

Subsequently, a public parting of ways and seemingly defiant stance from PSG manager Luis Enrique – backing the French club’s board in their decision – led to a parting of ways between the Parisiens and Donnarumma, who bid farewell to the Parc des Princes faithful in August.

Stefan Ortega Moreno is increasingly likely to leave Manchester City on deadline day, which will complete a thorough revamp of Guardiola’s goalkeeping department from the previous campaign, with Marcus Bettinelli and Trafford also signed earlier in the window.

A medical on Monday is likely to be followed by an official confirmation of the transfer from all parties, with Donnarumma only expected to travel to Manchester and join up with his new teammates after the upcoming international break.
