Gil Vicente have agreed to sign former Vasco goalkeeper Lucão to replace Andrew after his sale to Flamengo, a chain of moves that could benefit the Rio club through a 50% stake retained in 2022.

According to PaponaColina, the Portuguese side moved quickly and struck a permanent deal, ending his spell at Red Bull Bragantino and marking his first experience in European football.

Vasco kept 50% of Lucão’s economic rights when he left Rio de Janeiro for Bragança Paulista in 2022, so the club’s finance team are watching closely.

Figures between Bragantino and Gil Vicente have not been disclosed, whether via a fee or a release with rights shared, but joining a top-flight Portuguese club raises his profile.

If Bragantino received money now, Vasco are entitled to half. If there was no immediate fee, Vasco carry their 50% into a European shop window, where a future sale could be lucrative.

After mixed spells in Vasco’s first team, Lucão now has the chance to reset in Europe while the Gigante da Colina hope his progress also brings financial upside.
