Giovanni Haag joins Lion City Sailors after impressive Ligue 2 season at Red Star

Giovanni Haag has made a surprise switch to the Singapore Premier League, signing for Lion City Sailors after impressing with Red Star in Ligue 2. According to L'Équipe, the 26-year-old midfielder has completed the move.
Haag featured in 28 matches last season for Red Star, who finished fourth and were knocked out of the Ligue 2 play-offs by Rodez, 2-3.
He joins the double defending champions, where he will link up with fellow Frenchman Matthias Phaëton, also 26 and previously of Ligue 2 clubs Guingamp and Grenoble.
Developed at Nancy, Haag spent 2023-2024 with Rodez, then moved to Fortuna Düsseldorf in Germany’s second tier in 2024-2025, before arriving at the Seine-Saint-Denis club on loan last summer.
He has one France Under-19 cap, earned in February 2019 against Italy, a 1-2 defeat.
