An exciting Bavarian derby on matchday 2 of the 2025/26 edition of the Bundesliga ended with a narrow win for the Rekordmeister: Bayern win 3-2 against Augsburg!

FCA's headcoach Sandro Wagner was one of the main characters in this derby, due to his history in Munich. However, it was once again Bayern's superb attack which decided the game: here is the full match report for this exciting derby:

First half:

The game started off with a great chance for Bayern: only 20 seconds (!) in, Luis Díaz failed to convert Michael Olise's low cross - even though he had an open net! A must-score chance for the team from Munich.

However, this was only a sign of things to come in this first half: Bayern dominated the play, creating chance after chance with Augsburg barely getting into dangerous positions themselves.

Therefore it was only a matter of time until Bayern found the opening goal: Harry Kane, who played his 100th game for Bayern tonight, delivered a perfectly smooth cross for his colleague Serge Gnabry, who headed the ball into the net to put FCB in front. Konrad Laimer was also lurking for the ball behind Gnabry, showing Bayern's dominance in the attacking third in this period of the match.

Augsburg's tactics included long balls and counter attacks in the hopes of some slip ups from the Bayern defense - but Vincent Kompany's team were to focussed and concentrated and avoided any mistakes in this phase.

The Rekordmeister then awarded themselves for a really good first half by scoring their second shortly before half-time: it was Díaz, who was able to make up for his mistake from the early stages, thanks to an assist from Laimer. 2-0 at half-time.

Second half:

You could see that Augsburg came out very motivated and inspired to turn things around in the second half - but Bayern dashed their hopes by scoring their 3rd of the game just 2 minutes into the re-start. Olise, who received a ball from Kane in the middle of the park, dribbled past Augsburg's Schlotterbeck and put it past Dahmen. The shot did not seem impossibly difficult to save - Dahmen was just simply caught on the wrong foot in that moment.

But whoever thought this would now turn into a goal-fest for the reigning Bundesliga champions was very much mistaken: Kristijan Jakić got one back in the 53rd minute for Augsburg, after they were successful in one of their few counter attacks. This goal really turned things around in this match:

Augsburg seemed like a whole new team after this goal, putting Bayern under real pressure. Kompany had to react and changed his team around in some ways - Sacha Boey and Aleksander Pavlović came in for Leon Goretzka and Konrad Laimer.

Sandro Wagner, one of the main characters of this match because of his history at Bayern, pushed his team forward and was able to celebrate again: 20-year-old Mert Kömür cleverly put it past Manuel Neuer into the bottom right corner in the 76th minute!

Bayern wanted to show a quick reaction and got into great scoring positions right after: Olise, Gnabry and Boey all got close to scoring Bayern's 4th of the night - but could not fully get it done.

The Fuggerstädter really tried to put everything forward, but the last phase of the game was dominated by an unfortunate accident: a header duel between Robin Fellhauser and Sacha Boey ended badly for the Augsburg player, who was hit in the head and landed on the floor in a nasty way.

He had to be stretchered off and the game ended quietly, even though there were three minutes left to play - the incident simply took the wind out of the game, which was understandable of course. Full-time: Augsburg 2-3 Bayern.
