Anthony Gordon couldn’t resist a cheeky joke at Arsenal’s expense after scoring in Newcastle’s 2-0 win over the Gunners in the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

Jacob Murphy and Gordon got the goals as Newcastle won at St James’ Park in the second leg, sealing a 4-0 aggregate win over two legs and a place at Wembley next month. The Magpies will take on either Tottenham or Liverpool for the trophy on March 16th.

Newcastle now have the chance to end a 70-year wait for a major trophy and Gordon joked his side must ‘stay humble’ in his post-match interview to Sky Sports.

Gordon’s comment comes days after Arsenal’s clash with Manchester City, in which Myles Lewis-Skelly mocked Erling Haaland’s celebration in a 5-1 win. In September, Haaland told Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta to ‘stay humble’ after a draw between the teams at the Etihad.

“It feels amazing. A proper team performance and we got the win. Our fans are never in question, they make it so difficult for the opposition and we did it the right way,” Gordon said.

“We had a game plan we thought would work. Everyone knows we press. It is important for us to stay humble now. It will be a big occasion but it’s so far away.”

Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes also reflected on a big night for Eddie Howe’s side. He said the Magpies can ‘dream big’ if they continue to perform to this standard.

“Unbelievable performance from everyone and we must thank the fans as well. Here we go, another final for the club and hopeful we can win this one.

“I felt anxious before the game, big game, Arsenal a top, top team but when we play like that we become an amazing team.

“Play like that and we can dream big. It would be amazing to get a trophy, it is my dream to do this.

“Isak is the best striker these days for me. For me, the manager is amazing. He deserves the credit.”
