“Great opportunity” – Chelsea warned against making January transfer decision | OneFootball

Chelsea have been warned against recalling Aaron Anselmino from his loan spell at Borussia Dortmund in January.

The Blues signed Anselmino from Argentine side Boca Juniors in the summer of 2024, and the defender made his debut at the Club World Cup.

Anselmino was sent on loan to Dortmund for the season, and despite having some injury issues he’s really impressed for the German giants.

Niko Kovac has been impressed by the 20-year-old, and Dortmund have reportedly approached Chelsea about signing Anselmino on a permanent basis. 

Chelsea have insisted the youngster isn’t for sale, although they do have a recall option in January, but they’ve been warned about activating it by European football expert Andy Brassell.

Anselmino is impressing in the Bundesliga.

“If I were Chelsea, I’d leave him where he is. I think you look at the back end of this season, Dortmund have been knocked out of the DFB-Pokal, but they’re going to progress in the Champions League, either top eight or top 24,” he told talkSPORT.

“They are going to have a lot of big games to play between now and the end of the season. And he’ll get to play. I don’t have any doubt about that.”

Great opportunity for Chelsea youngster

What Anselmino needs more than anything is consistent game time, and Brassell feels remaining at Dortmund for the rest of the season is great opportunity.

“So I think Chelsea, and maybe him depending on how he feels about it, just need to exercise a little bit of patience here,” he added.

“I think if they leave him at Dortmund, he’ll probably play another 15 games before the end of the season.

Anselmino has so far made nine appearances in all competitions for Dortmund, and will be hoping to stay fit and add to that over the second half of the season.
