Darwin Nunez and Al Hilal Links: Analysing the Saudi Transfer Rumours from Daily Red

Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez is the latest name circulating in the Saudi transfer rumour mill, with reports linking the Uruguayan striker to Al Hilal SFC. The Daily Red podcast on Anfield Index, featuring Dave Davis and Grizz Khan, dissected these links and provided valuable insight into what the future might hold for Nunez. The conversation touched on Saudi interest, Liverpool’s stance, and Nunez’s performances in a Reds shirt.

Al Hilal Rumours: What’s Really Happening?

The podcast kicked off with Grizz Khan addressing the swirling rumours surrounding Nunez’s potential move to Saudi Arabia. Grizz revealed he had spoken directly with a source from Al Hilal, who categorically denied any current negotiations with Liverpool.

“I spoke to someone from Al Hilal directly. They reached out to me and said, ‘Can you dispel this theory? We’re not in talks with Liverpool over Darwin Nunez,’” Grizz stated.

However, Grizz also shared that another trusted contact suggested there might be some preliminary interest via agents. “It’s possible that there’s agent talk going on behind the scenes,” Grizz added, acknowledging the complexities of modern transfer dealings.

Dave Davis agreed, noting that Saudi clubs are known for their spending power and that any formal offer could exceed expectations. “If the Saudis come in with a big offer, Liverpool would have to consider it. But in January? It feels unlikely.”

Nunez’s Performance: Divisive Views from Anfield Legends

One of the more contentious points of discussion on Daily Red was Robbie Fowler’s comments about Darwin Nunez. The former Liverpool striker made his feelings clear, saying he doesn’t see Nunez as a long-term fit for the club. “We’re saying the same things now that we were saying two or three years ago. He’s raw, he’s this, he’s that. We can’t keep saying that,” Fowler said.

Grizz was quick to agree with Fowler’s assessment. “When Robbie Fowler speaks about forwards, you have to listen. He knows what it takes to be a top striker at Liverpool. And, honestly, I agree with him — Nunez just isn’t delivering consistently enough.”

Grizz went on to explain that while Nunez has the attributes to succeed, his lack of composure and finishing ability is a concern.

“We haven’t struggled to create chances, and we’ve scored plenty of goals. But Nunez just doesn’t convert enough. I hate the term ‘chaos maker.’ I want a goal scorer, not a chaos maker.”

Liverpool’s Position: To Sell or Not to Sell?

The podcast also delved into Liverpool’s potential asking price for Nunez, should a formal offer come in. Grizz suggested that anything north of £40 million would be worth considering. “£40-45 million would be viable, especially if a Saudi club is interested. But knowing Liverpool’s negotiators, they’ll probably push for more,” Dave Davis noted.

The pair agreed that a summer move seems more realistic than a January departure. “In January, it’s hard to see anyone making a ‘ludicrous offer,’ as Grizz put it. But in the summer? That’s when things could get interesting.”

Grizz also mentioned that Nunez’s former coach at Benfica, Jorge Jesus, is now managing Al Hilal, which could play a role in any future interest.

“The connection with Jorge Jesus makes sense. But for now, Al Hilal have said they’re not pursuing him. Let’s see what happens in the summer.”

Bigger Picture: Patience or Time to Move On?

The Daily Red discussion ultimately circled back to the bigger question — is Nunez the right fit for Liverpool under Arne Slot? Both Grizz and Dave seemed to lean toward the idea that Nunez’s time at Anfield may be coming to an end.

“I’ve never wanted him to fail. I want every Liverpool player to succeed. But at some point, you have to admit when it’s not working,” Grizz stated.

The conversation wrapped up with both contributors agreeing that Liverpool need to make a clear decision on Nunez’s future, especially if a big-money offer comes in.

“It’s about being proactive. If the right offer comes in, you take it. But for now, Nunez has the rest of the season to prove he belongs in a Liverpool shirt,” Dave concluded.
