Pep Guardiola has confirmed that James Trafford will start in goal for the Carabao Cup final against Arsenal.

Trafford has played just three times in the Premier League this season with Gianluigi Donnarumma the preferred number one.

But Trafford has been a regular starter in the Carabao Cup and the Manchester City boss has confirmed that will continue on Sunday.

Trafford has been open about his desire to play more games but Guardiola praised the way he has responded to being left out.

“Good. Nothing to say,” he said.

“Players can be happy, or unhappy, it is what it is. We have to do our best when they do, and afterwards we have to see what happens at the end of the season.”

On facing rivals Arsenal, Guardiola said: “They control many things, many aspects of the game. For many years they have not won…but you see that boost, that solidarity.

“They can control when they defend deep, high, build-ups and long balls, second balls and there are so many good things. Their team is talented. Brilliant team. Big challenge for us.”
