Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has given further detail on Rodri’s current situation with the midfielder still sidelined.

The Spaniard has been plagued by injury problems throughout the past two campaigns, which has hampered the Blues’ title aspirations.

With a distinct lack of midfield control in Rodri’s absence, City drew 3-3 against Everton on Monday night. The result could prove to be a fatal blow to their title hopes, with the title now once again out of their hands

“Yeah, I hope so,” City’s boss answered on Rodri returning before the end of the season. “Yesterday he started to make partial training and today we’ll see.”

Earlier Guardiola said: “We have survived without him for many many months. He still doesn’t feel completely comfortable. He will be ready and fit and come back, we will see this afternoon or tomorrow.”

However, with Rodri only now returning to partial training and with City’s manager just hopeful of seeing him on the pitch before the end of the season, his return may not be as imminent as it initially seemed.

Despite being unavailable, the Spaniard has still been travelling with the squad and present in the dressing room.

“Yeah, it’s top,” said Guardiola. “Ruben (Dias) came and Josko (Gvardiol) came for the Everton game. We talked.

“So now the season is done. In terms of it’s a good season not a bad season already, but everybody can help to finish in the best way.

“We have the FA Cup final in front of us in one week’s time, in eight days. And in the Premier League as well.

“We have to do what we have to do, and we’ll do it.”
