Pep Guardiola expressed his delight as Manchester City secured a 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town, restoring belief after a mixed start to the season.
City had collected only seven points from their opening five league matches, leaving them sitting ninth in the Premier League table.
Phil Foden opened the scoring in the 18th minute and later set up Savinho in the 74th to seal victory for the Premier League side.
Huddersfield tried to frustrate Guardiola’s men with a change of shape, but City adapted well and controlled the match for long periods.
Speaking after the game, Guardiola praised his players for their patience, attitude, and the way they handled a tricky away challenge.
“A good one. It is always tricky, but we played really well,” he told Sky Sports. “They changed their shape and we had to improve in the build-up, but we did really well in general.”
The City boss stressed that progress in the competition is always valuable, and he was pleased with the quality shown by his squad.
“We are in the next round, it is good!” he added. “I do not take it for granted. The spirit is back in many things, I am so pleased. It was really good.”
The victory has eased some of the pressure on City, who had struggled for consistency in recent weeks across domestic competitions.
Guardiola highlighted that the improved spirit within the team will be key as they look to build momentum in the coming fixtures.
City will now travel to face Swansea City in the next round of the Carabao Cup, with ties scheduled for the week starting 27 October.
In the meantime, City will turn their attention back to the Premier League as they host newly promoted Burnley at the Etihad on 27 September
