Gui Negão, one of Corinthians’ breakout players last season, is still awaiting his first minutes under Fernando Diniz. The forward offered a different profile in attack and often featured off the bench.

He was injured in late March while training with Brazil’s under-20s and returned to the club for treatment. According to Meu Timao, scans showed a grade 2 problem in the back of his right thigh, keeping him out until early May.

He was back available for the 2-1 defeat to Mirassol in the Brasileiro, then five further matches passed without the No 56. Diniz has preferred Pedro Raul, who has played the last seven games but is yet to score.

Opportunities could also open up given Yuri Alberto’s difficult spell, only one goal in his last 10 outings. Elsewhere in attack, Kayke, Vitinho and Memphis Depay are under medical supervision.

Gui Negão is again an option before the World Cup break and could help lift Corinthians from a tricky position. They are 17th, first in the relegation zone, on 18 points, with two matches before the pause.

They face Atlético Mineiro at the Neo Química Arena on Sunday at 18:30. Next Saturday, they visit Grêmio at 17:30.
