Guido Buchwald, the Stuttgart great and 1990 World Cup winner, sees FC Porto’s tie against Stuttgart as finely balanced. He highlights Porto’s defensive strength and notes the impact of Samu’s absence in attack.
According to O Jogo, Buchwald regards FC Porto as a Champions League side rather than a Europa League one, while stressing that Stuttgart are in good shape.
A club icon, he played 377 games across 11 seasons for Stuttgart from 1983 to 1994, lifting the Bundesliga in 1984 and 1992.
Now 65, he remains a prominent figure in German football. He won the 1990 World Cup with the “Mannschaft”, a 1-0 final against Argentina in which he was assigned to mark Diego Maradona and did so successfully.
Buchwald says he knows FC Porto well and recalls facing João Pinto and Madjer during those years.
