The Whites have been pursuing the Dutch second tier star.

Sheffield United's Gustavo Hamer is reportedly willing to make a career change and move to Leeds United.

The player was the subject of a bid from Daniel Farke's side, which was rejected by the Blades, according to The Star, but Leeds have been given a boost in their pursuit of more attacking options.

Farke previously stated, via Leeds Live, that, once Georginio Rutter completed his move to Brighton & Hove Albion, that he would need two offensive-minded players plus a winger.

Hamer is one of the options being looked at, and GIVEMESPORT has reported that Leeds believe they have turned the head of the 27-year-old.

GMS has said that the Whites have an offer for Hamer that he would be willing to accept, should the two Yorkshire clubs come to an agreement on a fee for him in the final days of the transfer window.

The Blades paid £15 million to Coventry City for him last summer, after they won promotion to the Premier League. Leeds' rejected offer was said to be in the region of £13 million. Alan Nixon reported, in May, that Chris Wilder's side would be willing to part with the player if they got their money back.

Wilder addressed the reported bid after his side's loss to Barnsley in the EFL Cup, when Hamer came on as a substitute. "He showed where his head is tonight," said the Blades' boss, via The Star.

"When people talk about head-turned and speculation, he’s handled it fantastically well. I thought he was quiet on Saturday but we had a chat on Monday about it, that we need him because he’s a huge player for us.

"We know the number and the numbers that the club who made the offer [Leeds] have brought in this summer [around £140m] and what they’ve got. Top dollar for their players. I’ll leave it there with everybody but I thought he showed the urgency that we needed."

GMS further stated that Farke and his team are looking to make another go at getting the 27-year-old before the window closes, but Hamer isn't the only attacking target they are looking at. Hungarian international Roland Sallai is another option that the Whites are said to be pursuing.

It was clear from when he came on against the Tykes in their midweek matchup that Hamer was by far the best player on the pitch. That is to be expected given his pedigree compared to those who he shared Oakwell's turf with on Tuesday night, but the point remains: he is absolutely quality.

His skill has been on full display since the start of the new Championship season. He and 20-year-old Oli Arblaster, who has also been the subject of interest from other clubs in this window - Premier League ones in his case - have been two of the standout performers in Wilder's team.

If they want to have any chance of the quickest possible return to the top flight, Hamer needs to be a part of this Blades side. Without him, there will be some doubts about if they have enough to overcome the other challengers for the top positions, such is the footballing weight that he carries.

Losing him to Leeds would make their chances even more slim, since he'd be going to a direct promotion rival, but him departing in any way would certainly do them no favours.
