Gustavo Varela ‘to join’ Monza as Benfica agree sale with 20% sell-on | OneFootball

Gustavo Varela has agreed a move to Monza, a club near Milan, and will leave Benfica.

Per Glorioso 1904, Benfica receive two million euros up front, rising to three and a half million with add-ons, and keep 20% of a future sale. The 21-year-old is signing a five-year contract.

Varela split his development between Sporting, Benfica and PAOK. He now links up with a Monza side back in Serie A this season, who recently confirmed the arrival of Ricardo Mangas from Sporting.

The young Portugal international spent last season on loan at Gil Vicente, where his form attracted Monza.

He made one senior appearance for Benfica in 2023/24. For Gil Vicente he scored seven goals and delivered three assists in 33 matches.

With no place in Marco Silva’s plans for the new campaign, the move suits all parties and offers Varela a platform to progress in a competitive league.
