Guy Stéphan will be at the Vélodrome on Wednesday night for OM v Liverpool in the seventh matchday of the Champions League league phase, L'Équipe reports.
The France assistant will have few Bleus to monitor, with Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté absent from the trip for family reasons. Two French players with World Cup ambitions are expected to start, Benjamin Pavard for OM and Hugo Ekitike for Liverpool.
Pavard was called up in September and October to cover withdrawals during camps. He has not played for France since an eight minute appearance against Italy, 3-1 on 17 November 2024.
Ekitike started France’s most recent match in Azerbaijan, 3-1 on 16 November. He had scored three days earlier against Ukraine, 4-0.
Although Marseille have plenty of internationals, potential France candidates are fewer, as Roberto De Zerbi has already fielded teams made entirely of players with foreign sporting nationality. That was the case again on Saturday against Angers, 5-2. Bilal Nadir, selected by Morocco’s youth team and already called up without playing by Walid Regragui, remains officially free to choose France at senior level.
