Erling Haaland further extended his amazing exploits by scoring five times to help Norway maintain their perfect 2026 World Cup European qualifying record with a remarkable 11-1 rout of Moldova.

The City striker claimed a first-half treble inside 32 minutes in Oslo to put the hosts firmly on the road to chalking up five wins out of five to remain top of Group I.

He then added his fourth of the night seven minutes after the restart before then scoring again seven minutes from time to take his overall tally at international level to a staggering 48 goals from 45 appearances.

Haaland had started off the night by providing the assist for Felix Myrhe’s sixth minute opener before then taking centre stage himself.

The City talisman struck on 11, 36 and 43 minutes to seal what was his fifth treble for his country

With Martin Odegaard also on target in first half injury time it meant the game as a contest was effectively wrapped up at the break.

But Haaland wasn’t finished there and plundered another goal early after the resumption to further stretch Norway’s lead.

Haaland’s City colleague Oscar Bobb came on as a second half substitute with Thelo Asgaard then taking centre stage by claiming a remarkable hat-trick inside 12 minutes to further add to Moldova’s misery.

The visitors did gain a modicum of pride through a Leo Ostigard own goal, but this was a night to savour for Haaland and Norway.

And fittingly Erling was there again, striking again late on as he served up the perfect preparation ahead of Sunday’s Manchester derby.

A night to savour was  then sealed in injury time when Asgaard claimed his own fourth and Norway’s 11th goal.

Elsewhere in European qualifying, City skipper Bernardo Silva was on target with Ruben Dias also featuring as Portugal secured a dramatic 3-2 win away to Hungary in Group F.

In what was a high-quality affair in Budapest, the hosts took a 21st minute lead through Barnabas Varga.

But Bernardo sparked a fine response from Portugal, firing home on 36 minutes from Joao Cancelo’s assist.

And the visitors then went ahead just before the hour when skipper Cristiano Ronaldo despatched his 141st goal at international level.

Varga struck again six minutes to deliver what looked like a draw for Hungary only for Cancelo to fire home four minutes from time to make it two wins out of two for Portugal.

Meanwhile,  City keeper James Trafford was an unused substitute as Thomas Tuchel’s England recorded a hugely impressive 5-0 win away to Serbia to make it five wins out of five in Group K.

Skipper Harry Kane and Noni Madueke were on target in the first half in Belgrade to put the Three Lions firmly in the driving seat.

And England further stretched their advantage after the break when Ezri Konsa registered his maiden international strike before Marc Guehi then added a fourth after the Serbs were reduced to 10 men after the dismissal of skipper Nikola Milenkovic.

Substitute Marcus Rashford then struck from the penalty to round off what was a statement win for Tuchel’s side.

The result leaves England sitting pretty at the top of Group K with 15 points, seven clear of second-placed Albania.
