Following their Copa del Rey win in the final against Real Madrid, FC Barcelona are now set to face Inter Milan in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final.
The two teams are coming into this tie with very contrasting forms. The Catalans have just won the domestic cup with a hard-fought win over their arch-rivals. On the other hand, the Italians have lost all of their last three games, lost their top position in the Serie A table, and were eliminated from the cup competition after a defeat to their cross-town rivals, AC Milan.
Still, the Nerazzurri have a very strong record in the UCL, and they remain the side with the best defensive performance in the competition so far.
They have conceded only 5 goals in the 12 games they have played in this edition of the competition, and according to Mundo Deportivo, Hansi Flick knows that their defensive solidity is the key to their offensive strategy.
Simone Inzaghi plays with an impenetrable 3-5-2 formation with Yann Sommer protecting the goal, and this setup has allowed the Italians to keep a clean sheet in 8 of the 12 matches they have played in the UCL this season.

In these 12 games, Inter got 9 wins, 2 draws, and only 1 loss. The loss came against Bayer Leverkusen as the Germans beat the Italians 1-0 on German soil in the league phase. The Nerazzurri finished this league phase in the third spot, having the same number of points as Barcelona, 19, and thus were only behind Liverpool, who had 21 points.
Other big sides like Manchester City, Arsenal, RB Leipzig, Monaco, and Feyenoord were unable to beat the Italians in this edition of the competition, and this was mainly because of their defensive solidity.
Barcelona have one of the best attacks in Europe this season, and Hansi Flick will be looking to get the best of Inter’s defence with his own team’s biggest strength, its attack.
