Barcelona have moved to the top of the La Liga table for the first time this season with Real Madrid slipping to second place.
With seven games played, Barcelona remain unbeaten in league action, with a one point edge over their fierce El Clasico rivals.
Real Madrid’s 5-2 derby defeat to Atletico Madrid gave Hansi Flick’s side the ideal boost ahead of hosting Real Sociedad, but they were forced to battle against their Basque visitors.
Alvaro Odriozola gave La Real a shock early lead before Jules Kounde snatched an equaliser before the break.
Robert Lewandowski continued his strong return to full fitness with a winner on the hour mark as the fit again Lamine Yamal impressed with 30 minutes off the bench late on.
Flick hailed his returning teenager, on the back of his Ballon d’Or frustration, but he also singled out Pedri as his fine form continued.
The Canarian is now undisputed as first choice at the base of Flick’s midfield, alongside Frenkie de Jong, and he will be relied upon against PSG in midweek UEFA Champions League action.

“Pedri is special. He’s a great player. He’s getting better at being a leader. He’s a crazy player and very important,” as per reports from Marca.
“When he’s out there on the pitch, he’s everywhere. He gives us control of the ball and knows what position he needs to be in at all times. He’s very good. T
“Together with Frenkie, they’ve organized and transformed the team. I really enjoy watching them play together in this time.”
On the back of making 37 out of 38 La Liga appearances last season – with 35 as a starter – Pedri’s endurance has not dropped in the opening weeks of 2025/26.
He is the only player in Flick’s squad to start all eight games so far, including the Champions League opener against Newcastle United.
