FC Barcelona took another step towards winning the La Liga title as they beat Mallorca in their last league match. The game last night ended in a 1-0 win for the Blaugranes, with Dani Olmo scoring the only goal of the night to get his side the full three points.
Hansi Flick had made several changes in his starting lineup for this game, and fortunately, his team was still able to get the job done.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the German tactician was quite satisfied with the job his team had done, and he expressed this satisfaction as he talked to the press after the game.
The Barcelona coach was particularly happy with how his team had generated a lot of chances and also kept a clean sheet:
“I think we played a very good match, with plenty of chances, many opportunities to shoot and score. In the end, it was 1-0 and with a clean sheet, so I’m happy… 1-0 is still considered a win.”
Flick was also happy that his team had reduced the number of mistakes:
“We started very well. The whole team defended, but the way we played was really good, and I think we saw fewer mistakes than in previous matches… It was a fantastic game.”
The German coach praised the performance of two surprise starters and took the responsibility to keep all his players fresh and ready for such a hectic phase of the season:
“Ansu, Héctor… Everyone has done a great job. It’s been positive to see that everyone feels like they’re part of this team… It’s my job to manage that, always thinking about the next match, which is the most important one.”
Further talking about Fati, who made his first start in months, Flick said:
“I think so. And you can see that his teammates support him, and the fans do too. It’s been a really good day for him. It will help him regain confidence and believe in himself more.”
The Barcelona trainer was quite satisfied with his substitutions in this game:
“At the end, we gave a lot of thought to which players should come in or rest. We place a lot of importance on how to manage our players. We made many changes, but I believe we got it right.”
Flick made it clear that he was relying a lot on Dani Olmo going forward:
“For us, he’s very important, he’s a great player, and from now until the end, he’s going to help us a lot.”
The German coach also highlighted Pedri’s importance for his team:
“It’s hard to put a limit on Pedri. He’s playing at a top level. Not only with the ball, but also without it. He helps us a lot defensively, and everyone knows how good he is.”
Lastly, the Barcelona tactician also spoke well about Eric Garcia, who played as a right-back in this game:
“I’m very surprised by the level he showed today. It’s one more position where he can play: he always knows what needs to be done.”
There is no doubt that this was a vital win for the Blaugranes, which keeps them in control of the La Liga race. Furthermore, Flick was also able to rest some of his key starters ahead of the Copa del Rey final, and hopefully, the Catalans will be able to put in another similar performance in that game on Saturday.
