Perhaps the biggest star for the Los Angeles Galaxy ever and even in Major League Soccer history, celebrates his 43rd birthday on Tuesday. Landon Donovan turns another year older on this day.

He already won two MLS Cup titles during his time with the San Jose Earthquakes prior to joining the LA Galaxy. Donovan would sign one of the largest contracts in franchise history in 2005.

That season, his new team won their second title while Donovan collected his third. With 12 goals and 10 assists during the regular season, he made an immediate contribution to the Galaxy.

The legacy that Landon Donovan left behind with the LA Galaxy

In 2011, Donovan secured legendary status when he scored in the 72nd minute of the MLS Cup Finals against Houston Dynamo. This gave him not only his fourth MLS Cup title but MVP honors as well.

Now a four-time champion, he wasn't done yet. A year later, the Galaxy became back-to-back winners in the 2012 season. It was his score during the 65th minute on a penalty kick that allowed the Los Angeles Galaxy to hoist the franchise's fourth title.

Donovan scored the winning goal at the 2014 MLS All-Star Game in 2014. A day later, he announced that this particular season would be his last. All the more important for the team to have won their fifth MLS Cup that year on Donovan's way out.

In 2016, Donovan briefly came out of retirement and appeared in six games for the LA Galaxy. The Ontario, Canada native scored once during that stretch.

For his career totals, Donovan played in over 250 games for the LA Galaxy and scored 118 times. Throughout the postseason for the Los Angeles Galaxy, he also racked up 15 goals and 10 assists.

Donovan will always be remembered as one of the greats in this sport and for this franchise. Today, we honor him on his 43rd birthday.
