"Harry felt a few reactions" – Why Kane didn't start for Bayern against St. Pauli | OneFootball

After returning from injury in Bayern Munich’s 2-1 Champions League quarter-final first-leg win over Real Madrid earlier this week, Harry Kane watched his teammates beat FC St. Pauli 5-0 from the bench on Saturday.

Speaking ahead of the game, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany explained that he did not want to risk the 32-year-old ahead of Wednesday’s return leg against Real Madrid.

“Resting him is maybe not the right word,” Kompany told Sky Germany, explaining that Kane had “felt a few reactions” after playing 90 minutes against Real Madrid.

Despite this, the 32-year-old is expected to be fully fit to start Wednesday’s return leg.

“It’s nothing serious for the next game,” Kompany underlined.

With players like Kane, especially at this stage of the season, Kompany didn't want to take “too much unnecessary risk.”

“It was already great that he managed 90 minutes (against Real Madrid). Maybe it will be 120 minutes in the next game, who knows. I hope not, but we have to make such sensible decisions,” he explained.
