Harry Kane insists winning the World Cup ‘must be’ England’s goal | OneFootball

Sixty years after Geoffrey Hurst’s team were crowned champions, can England return to the pinnacle of world football? That, at any rate, is the aim of Harry Kane (32), captain of the Three Lions.

“The ambition is to win it, obviously. That has to be our goal,” the Bayern Munich player emphasised in an interview with L’Équipe. “We know it will be difficult, but we’ve come close in recent years to winning a major tournament: we’ve reached two Euro finals (in 2021 and 2024), a semi-final (in 2018) and a quarter-final (in 2022) of the World Cup…”

And although this competition brings with it “a lot of pressure”, Kane remains enthusiastic about taking part with “a new manager (Thomas Tuchel, appointed last year) and new players”. An exciting challenge for the Three Lions’ all-time leading goalscorer (112 caps, 78 goals), who now hopes to secure a second star for England.

If he were to succeed in this mission, he would not only rectify what is undoubtedly one of the greatest anomalies in international football, but would also cement his place a little further in the pantheon of British legends.
