Harry Kane was the star of the show as Bayern Munich ran out 4-1 winners at Hoffenheim, the English forward scoring a hat-trick to maintain Bayern’s perfect start in the Bundesliga.
Vincent Kompany made several changes to his side as the Bavarians, fresh from Champions League action, travelled to a notoriously tricky venue.
Despite the rotation, Bayern were determined to dominate possession from the off, though early attempts at goal were limited to a few long-range efforts comfortably dealt with by Hoffenheim goalkeeper Oliver Baumann.
Bayern’s first claim for a penalty came in the 16th minute when Kane went down following an alleged handball, but VAR ruled the arm was tucked close to the body and play continued. The visitors controlled much of the first half, patiently probing the home defence.
It was just before the break, in the 44th minute, that Kane broke the deadlock. A rehearsed corner from Lennart Karl on the right found the Englishman at the near post, and he fired a low drive past Baumann to make it 1-0.
Hoffenheim, who had largely kept Bayern at bay in the first half, were quickly dealt a blow after the restart. In the 48th minute, a handball penalty was awarded, and Kane calmly converted to double Bayern’s lead. The early strike visibly unsettled the hosts, who struggled to regain their shape or threaten Neuer in goal.
The game remained largely under Bayern’s control, with Hoffenheim’s best chance coming late, only for Manuel Neuer to make a vital save to keep the visitors ahead. The final blow came in the 78th minute when Bayern were awarded another penalty for a foul on Michael Olise; Kane stepped up once more, completing his hat-trick to make it 3-0.
Hoffenheim did manage a consolation goal shortly after. Coufal’s free-kick from the left deflected off Joshua Kimmich and looped into the net for an unfortunate own goal. Yet Bayern had the final word: in stoppage time, Serge Gnabry finished from a tight angle to seal a comprehensive 4-1 victory.
With the win, Bayern remain unbeaten in the Bundesliga, while Kane continues his remarkable scoring run against Hoffenheim, underlining his importance to the champions.
